Dr A P P Anilkumar works as a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist at Southwark Community Outreach team (SCOT), at the Maudsley Hospital. He does his private practice sessions at The Priory Hospital, Ticehurst House and Hayes Grove. He is one of the Consultant Psychiatrists responsible for the care at Priory Grange Ticehurst house, which is a long-term rehabilitation ward for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems; such as complex or duel diagnosis, often with forensic histories, detained under Mental Health Act 1983 and in need of expertise in areas such as self-harm, trauma or severe interpersonal difficulties.
Dr Anilkumar is dually qualified and is included in the GMC Specialist Register, with General Psychiatry as the speciality and Substance Misuse psychiatry as the sub speciality. He was the consultant responsible for treating nearly five hundred patients, while he was a CMHT consultant for two and a half years. He has a wide range of experience treating paranoid schizophrenia, first episode psychosis, treatment resistant psychosis, bipolar affective disorder, unipolar depression and post traumatic stress disorder. He has done neuro imaging research comparing the effects of different antipsychotic medications, on treating schizophrenia and the effect it has on brain functions. He regularly teaches on Antipsychotics for the MRCPsych course at the Institute of Psychiatry.
He is well experienced in treating substance misuse disorders including alcohol misuse, dependence, withdrawal states and long term maintenance treatment of opiate dependence. He has got wide range of experience in treating misuse of stimulant drugs, and dual diagnosis patients (patients with substance misuse problems and another psychiatric disorder such as psychosis or a mood disorder).
Dr Anilkumar has worked in, researched and taught transcultural psychiatry. He is well experienced in detecting the varied clinical presentations in a range of cultural settings as well as in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic psychiatric problems in ethnic minorities. |
